Elcotest Pencil Hardness Tester
PENCIL HARDNESS TESTER
The Pencil Hardness tester is the most common but also the most inconsistent technique to measure the
hardness of a coating. This test conduct scratch hardness tests to determine the resistance of coating material in order to prevent the scratches on the surface. In the test, pencils of various degrees of hardness are moved over the surface under a fixed pressure and angle to the surface. The degree of hardness of the pencil which damages the surface is taken s a measurement of scratch hardness e.g. 3H hardness.
